Review:

Synopsis:

Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church's most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence uncovers a trail of deep secrets left in the dead Pope's wake--secrets which could shake the foundations of the Church.

The idea of a movie about deciding the new pope admittedly sounded a little boring at first, but fortunately, Conclave was one of the most suspenseful movies I've seen all year. The film has a very mysterious undertone because this is a very sacred process/tradition that very few have experienced in person. The cast was too good to fail and it delivered. Every actor was on their A-game but especially Ralph Fiennes. My favorite scene from the movie was when Lawrence decided to write his own name on the card and when he walked up to cast his vote, he looked up at god before placing it in the bowl. A bomb was then detonated outside, causing the window above to shatter. This could also be chalked up to god being angry at Lawrence.
