Review:

DiDi was a movie that took me time to figure out how much I really enjoyed it. The movie is a coming-of-age story about a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy as he discovers himself and his passions. You might be a little discouraged after hearing the words "Coming of Age" and so was I. At a point in time when there seems to be no shortage of movies in this category, it can be hard to make a movie that ascends above the rest. Fortunately, Sean Wang understood this and created something that is clearly very special to him. Sean has stated that this movie is very closely related to his own experiences as a kid which really shines through the movie. What makes the genre so great is as long as time keeps ticking, we will continue to get fresh and original movies. This movie really emphasizes that sentiment by using its time period to its advantage. Because it takes place during the rise of the internet, it uses that theme to further the plot in some very unique and cool ways. While the main character may seem very irritating and stubborn, it's really a very honest look into the life of a young teen in such an unprecedented time.

Synopsis:

In 2008, during the last month of summer before high school begins, an impressionable 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy learns what his family can't teach him: how to skate, how to flirt, and how to love his mum.
