Review:

Synopsis:

When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.

Zach Cregger's first movie, Barbarian, was very conflicting for me. The first half of the movie was a masterclass in horror, while the second half felt like an entirely different movie and genre. With that being said, I came into this new movie with high hopes that it would deliver a genuinely frightening experience. Thankfully, I feel I got what I came for. The way the movie unravels not only the mysteries but the plot itself is done in a very refreshing way, revealing itself through the other characters. The movie manages to be consistently scary because, for the majority of the movie, we are unsure of what it is we are afraid of. Every actor brought their A game, but the clear breakout performance was Amy Madigan as Gladys. When she is first introduced, she is presented as a strange but innocent woman, but as the film goes on, we see her true evil reveal itself. Whenever Gladys was in a scene, you could feel the weight of presence not just in the score but in her physicality.
